Provisional membership criteria for Psychoanalytic Couple and Family Psychotherapy Section of Society for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

The actual criteria were approved at PCFP Section of SPP meeting on 6 of April 2016 and are valid up to the end of 2020, when the criteria will be revised в сторону сближения with the criteria of membership of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector.

Full Membership:

- Higher psychological or medical education:

- Theoretical psychoanalytic, psychoanalytic couple and family, psychoanalytic therapy of adult individuals, psychoanalytic therapy of children and adolescents or group analysis* education – no less than 400 academic hours (including no less than 100 academic hours of education on psychoanalytic couple and family therapy);

- Personal individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy (or psychoanalysis) with a frame no less than 2 hours per week in amount no les than 300 hours (it may include couple or family therapy but no more than 100 hours) or group analysis in amount no less than 240 hours** (an hour of therapy/analysis means one therapeutic/analytic session of 45-50 minutes)

- Supervision of cases – no less than 60 hours of individual supervision or presentation of a case of couple/family psychotherapy with an internationally qualified specialist on psychoanalytic couple or family psychotherapy***.

Associated membership:

- Higher psychological or medical education;

- Theoretical psychoanalytic, psychoanalytic couple and family, psychoanalytic therapy of adult individuals, psychoanalytic therapy of children and adolescents or group analysis* education – no less than 350 academic hours (including no less than 50 academic hours of education on psychoanalytic couple and family therapy);

- Personal individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy (or psychoanalysis) in amount no les than 200 hours or group analysis in amount no less than 240 hours**

- Supervision of cases – no less than 30 hours of individual supervision or presentation of a case of couple/family psychotherapy with an internationally qualified specialist on psychoanalytic couple or family psychotherapy***.

Candidates:

- Higher psychological or medical education;

- Theoretical psychoanalytic, psychoanalytic couple and family, psychoanalytic therapy of adult individuals, psychoanalytic therapy of children and adolescents or group analysis* education – no less than 300 academic hours;

- Personal individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy (or psychoanalysis) in amount no les than 200 hours or group analysis in amount no less than 240 hours**

Proceeding of admission to PCFP Section:

1) Written application and CV addressed to the Chair of the PCFP Section;

2) Preliminary interview with the three full members of the Section;

3) The applicant should be presented to the Section members by one of the interviewers;

4) Decision about admission to the Section is made in a general meeting of the Section by the majority of votes.

* Theoretical education: Admission to the Section requires attendance of educational programs or theoretical courses held by the full members of the SPP, Moscow Society for Group Analysis, Saint-Petersburg Society for Children Analysis, Moscow Psychoanalytical Society, European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (EFPP), International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA), European Group Analytic Training Institutions Network (E.G.A.T.I.N.) and internationally qualified specialists on psychoanalytic couples and/or families therapy.

** Personal psychotherapy (or psychoanalysis) with a frame no less than 2 h/w with the full members of SPP, Moscow Society for Group Analysis, Saint-Petersburg Society for Children Analysis, Moscow Psychoanalytic Society, European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, International Psychoanalytical Association, European Group Analytic Training Institutions Network

*** Internationally qualified specialists on psychoanalytic couples and/or families psychotherapy are:

- the full members of National Sections on psychoanalytic Couples and Families Psychotherapy, collective members of

• European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

• International Association for Couple and Family Psychoanalysis;

• Couple and Family Therapy and Psychoanalysis Section of Psychoanalytical Department (39) of American Psychological Association;

• British Association of Couple Counselling and Psychotherapy

Experienced psychoanalytical couple and family psychotherapists, the full members of

• International Psychoanalytical Association;

• European Psychoanalytical Association;

• American Psychoanalytical Association

Professors of wide known programs on psychoanalytical couple and family psychotherapy, specifically:

• International Psychotherapy Institute

• The Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships

• Psychodynamic Couple & Family Institute of New England;

• Washington Center for Psychoanalysis
